Chairman's Message

We heartily welcome you to the Department of English at Uttara University, arguably the premier academic destination in the country for students interested in studying English. We offer undergraduate and postgraduate programs—BA (Hons) in English, MA in English Literature, and MA in ELT—that cover various aspects of the English language, linguistics, and literature. Under the School of Arts and Social Sciences umbrella, our English programs are rooted in liberal-humanist tradition, artistic and literary values, critical and theoretical reasoning, and philosophical viewpoints. Our primary goal is to foster an attitude of inquiry and a passion for professional growth, preparing students to face life's challenges with confidence and skill.

The Department boasts a dynamic, diverse, and scholarly faculty with advanced degrees and PhDs from prestigious universities worldwide. They provide an exceptional education in English studies that balances creative development with critical analysis.

Our distinctive curriculum aims to enhance students' language skills, deepen their literary knowledge, and cultivate a broad worldview. Courses are carefully selected to support students' intellectual, professional, and personal growth. We have observed that graduates of our BA and MA programs find diverse career opportunities in fields such as civil service, teaching, journalism, art, cinema, visual media, advertising, banking, publishing, government and non-government organizations, multinational companies, insurance, and overseas positions.

We take pride in our alumni who have established significant roles in various professional sectors. Our graduates are highly sought after, and we frequently receive positive feedback from employers.

At our department, we place a strong emphasis on students' extra- and co-curricular activities. Our Debating Clubs, Film Society, and English Club are just a few examples of the many opportunities we offer for students to develop leadership skills and professional confidence. We believe that a well-rounded education is crucial for success.

We are committed to preparing our students for the contemporary world and beyond, firmly believing that a combination of academic knowledge, fluency in English, and practical experience ensures a successful career anywhere in the world. Our collective effort is to provide an academic 'home' where students are well-prepared to meet life's challenges and achieve success.

Best wishes,
